Emotional well-being is more than the absence of mental illness.

Rather, it is the ability to accept all parts of our humanity and embodied experiences with compassion.

The Inner Compass

July 24, 20251 min read
Your Inner Compass

Who is behind the helm in your mind right now?

Check in….

Is it a micro-manager Part who is sending you signals of urgency and threats to get your To-Do list done?

Perhaps you notice a harsh Inner Critic Part making nasty comments about your body in a swim suit and the amount of ice cream you ate last night.

Maybe there is an emotionally exhausted, overwhelmed Part who is screeching at you for a snack and an hour of silence! 🙋🏻‍♀️ 😮‍💨

All of it is holy because of all of it you.

~ AND ~

If one of these Parts tries to take over as captain, “internal mutiny” (i.e. anxiety, depression, relationship issues, addictions, burnout, etc.) is sure to follow.

If you want to learn how to nip those symptoms in the bud, you need to know how to soothe those Inner Critic Parts when then get loud.

Here's how you can begin:

  1. Witness the voice, tone, and energy of the Inner Critic. What words does she use? Where did she learn those words? What is her tone?

  2. Explore the sensations those words have on your body? Where do you FEEL the urgency? Anxiety? Overwhelm?

  3. Invite collaboration between your body and your mind…what would feel nurturing to the Inner Critic right now? Is it a phone call to a friend? A walk outside? An assertive email to a boss?

  4. Take aligned action.

Healing Affirmation for Smooth Sailing:

"I move closer to the discomfort with Courage and Compassion.

I trust I can hold mySelf through this storm.
